Immediate-load implants combine placement and a temporary fixed restoration into one visit — for patients whose bone and bite qualify. Every case starts with a CBCT 3D scan, not a guess.
Same-day dental implants — also called immediate-load implants or teeth-in-a-day — place the implant fixture and attach a temporary fixed restoration in a single surgical appointment. Instead of healing for months with a gap, a removable partial, or no teeth at all, you leave with something fixed in your mouth that day.
This is not the same as claiming the final, permanent restoration is done in one day. The temporary is functional and cosmetic from day one; the definitive crown or bridge follows after osseointegration is complete, typically 3–6 months later. Being clear about that distinction up front is part of setting the treatment up for success.

Immediate loading works because the implant achieves enough primary stability at placement to support a temporary restoration without micromovement that would disrupt healing. I evaluate that stability at the time of surgery — using insertion torque and implant stability quotient (ISQ) readings — not before.
That means candidacy is confirmed intraoperatively, on the day of surgery, after the implant is placed. Patients are counseled in advance that if stability at placement doesn't meet the threshold for immediate load, we shift to a staged protocol: the implant is placed and allowed to heal without a temporary attached, protecting the long-term result rather than forcing an immediate outcome that risks failure.
Every same-day case begins with a CBCT 3D cone-beam scan, reviewed with you directly — showing bone volume, density, and nerve or sinus proximity at the proposed implant site. From there, Simplant or Nobelvision digital planning software is used to position the implant virtually and, in most cases, design a surgical guide for precise placement.
The temporary restoration is also designed in advance using this digital data, so it's ready to attach immediately after implant placement rather than fabricated on the fly.
Request an AppointmentSame-day protocols apply differently depending on scope:
Single tooth: implant placement with an immediate temporary crown, when bone quality and site position support it.
Multiple teeth / partial arch: implants placed with an immediate fixed partial bridge.
Full arch (same-day full-mouth): 4–6 implants per arch with an immediate fixed temporary bridge — see our All-on-4 / All-on-X page for the full-arch protocol in detail.
Same-day protocols are not appropriate for every case. Strong candidates typically:
Even patients who need bone grafting first can often move to a same-day protocol once the site has healed and rebuilt — a staged path to the same result.
3D imaging and digital design of both the implant position and the temporary restoration, completed before surgery day.
The implant is placed; insertion torque and stability are measured immediately to confirm the case qualifies for immediate load.
A temporary fixed crown, bridge, or full-arch prosthesis is attached the same visit, restoring appearance and basic function.
The implant fuses with the bone. You function on the temporary restoration during this period, with scheduled check-ins.
Once integration is confirmed, the temporary is replaced with the definitive crown, bridge, or prosthesis using iTero digital impressions.
